AC just humming and clicking but not starting? Help in Windsor!

Hey everyone, looking for some quick advice. It’s getting pretty humid here in Windsor today, and my AC decided it’s a good time to quit. When the thermostat kicks in, I can hear a loud "humming" noise from the unit outside for about 5 seconds, followed by a metallic "click," and then… nothing. The fan doesn't spin, and obviously, no cold air is coming into the house.

I’m really worried about calling a random company and getting hit with a massive bill for a "burnt out compressor" when it might be something smaller. Does anyone know a technician in the area who is actually honest? I need someone who will actually test the components instead of just trying to sell me a whole new system on the spot. I’m looking for fair pricing and someone who actually shows up on the day they promised. Any recommendations?

I had that exact same "humming and clicking" issue last summer! It sounds like your starter capacitor has bit the dust—it’s a common part to fail, especially when it’s hot out. Whatever you do, don't keep trying to turn it on, or you actually will fry the motor. I ended up calling the team for ac repair Windsor https://superiorhvacservice.ca/windsor/air-conditioner-repair/ and I was really impressed with how they handled it.

The technician was a total pro. He arrived on time, pulled out his testing gear, and showed me exactly why the part had failed (it was actually bulging). He replaced it in about 20 minutes, checked the refrigerant levels, and had the whole system running ice-cold again before he left. What I liked most was the transparency—he gave me a flat rate for the repair right at the start, so there were no surprises. They didn't try any high-pressure sales tactics, which is a breath of fresh air compared to some of the bigger franchises I've dealt with in the past. Definitely give them a call!
